Moral Dilemma Because of a question that was posed by my son, I was faced with a quandary that I should have been better prepared for, but I wasn’t.   For anyone who knows me, my stance on the supernatural and spiritual belief is well-known.   As it pertains to the impression of my position on my son, I always thought that my de facto answer should be something like “when you’re older, we can talk about it.   For now, take in all the information you can, and draw your own conclusion.”   I think that even though he is my son and my responsibility, leveling that kind of information may inhibit his ability to develop his own critical thinking abilities, similarly to how exposing him to a religious tradition would.   My son asked, “Dad, does God really exist?”   My cop-out answer was to quickly say, “people have different opinions, and if you’re interested, use what you can to make your own opinion.”   My dilemma is that I very much want to share w...
Same Old Story In the not-too-distant past, at a time where our species was still in the very beginning stages of making sense of their surroundings, a being existed that was the source of answers and benevolence.   This being was believed to be the son of a god, and by that virtue, had amazing powers beyond that which any mere mortal could hope to possess.   This being could heal the sick, cure blindness, cast out demons in feats of exorcism, all by the laying on of his godly hands.   To further exhibit his majesty, this being could also perform feats of miraculous proportion, like walking on water and raising the dead.   Even after his own death, this being was seen to have risen from his own grave to walk once more, before ascending to the heavens.   If I had to guess, your first inclination was to ascribe the name of Jesus to this description.   You wouldn’t be entirely wrong – these stories were attributed to the life of Jesus.   But, on...
